2024 No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Uniform Requirements: What You Need to Know
As the world of No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu continues to evolve, staying updated on uniform requirements is essential for every practitioner.
For the 2024 season, here’s a streamlined guide to ensure you're in compliance with the latest rules and regulations for both men and women.
Shirts and Rash Guards
For All Competitors:
- Material and Fit: Shirts must be made of elastic, skin-tight material.
- Length: They should cover the torso completely, reaching down to the waistband of the shorts.
- Colour Requirements: Shirts must be in black, white, or a combination of black and white. Additionally, they should feature at least 10% of the colour corresponding to the athlete’s belt rank. Full-colour shirts matching the rank are also allowed.
Note: For black belts, a small red area is permissible but should not overshadow the primary rank colour.

Men’s Shorts
- Colour and Style: Board shorts can be black, white, a mix of black and white, or match the athlete’s belt colour.
- Design Specifications: Shorts must be pocket-free or have pockets completely stitched shut. They should be devoid of buttons, exposed drawstrings, zippers, or any plastic or metal elements that could pose a risk to opponents.
- Length: Shorts should extend at least halfway down the thigh but should not exceed the knee.

Compression Shorts: These may be worn under board shorts, featuring the same colour restrictions—black, white, black and white, or matching the belt colour.
Women’s Shorts and Compression Gear
- Shorts and Compression Pants: Options include shorts, compression pants (spats), and/or compression shorts in black, white, black and white, or the colour of the athlete’s belt.
- Design Specifications: Like men’s shorts, these should have no pockets or pockets that are stitched shut, and must not include buttons, zippers, or any potential hazards. The length should cover at least halfway down the thigh but not extend beyond the knee.
